I moved to Waco after college, but I was fortunate enough to move back to Lufkin seven years ago. I was only back in town for a couple of months when I was invited to go to a meeting at Crown Colony. I was told I was going to have to stand up and sing in front of 90 people. I was nervous as all get out and did not want to go but felt like it was something I needed to do. Thankfully, I did not have to stand up and sing in front of all those people. Instead, I was warranted the opportunity to serve my community in a positive way.
I never thought “to serve” the community in such a positive way as we do in Lions would make such an impact on my life. The friendships that are developed through our club are priceless and have guided me to realize what a great community we are able to live in. Joining this club has been one of the best decisions I have made.
Serving on all the boards that come with being president, has opened my eyes to what the club really stands for. We serve a tremendous amount of people and organizations that truly impact lives. I take great pride in being able to provide these needs alongside a great group of friends.
I believe as a club, we can all say that our favorite time comes the last week in April when the Angelina Benefit Rodeo is put on. Whether you are slinging hot dogs, spinning cotton candy, or selling cokes in the stands, it makes a great impact on the community and we get to have a lot of fun while doing it. It is a great event that I am proud to say that the Lufkin Host Lions Club puts on every year.
Finally, I want to say thank you to each and every Lion that volunteers your time. I know it is difficult sometimes to make it to every function we have. Your time, your effort and your dedication to Lions means that our community and the people we serve are being impacted. I am honored and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your president this year.
