104th President’s Message

Fellow Lions,
If you’re reading this, congratulations! You’ve survived a year under Lion William Price and receive the prize of dealing with my presidential antics. Not everyone can say that. It’s an honor to address such a fine group of dedicated individuals who know that “service above self ” isn’t just a motto, it’s our way of life—although some might also add, “and a little fun doesn’t hurt either.”
Speaking of fun…let’s talk about the rodeo. I mean, can we all just take a moment to appreciate the magic that is Lufkin’s rodeo season? It’s a time when we get to celebrate the best of our Texas roots: cowboy boots, bull riding, and folks
shouting “Yeehaw!” without a hint of irony. Honestly, if we could bottle up the energy from rodeo week, we’d power this entire club for years to come.
Every year, you all dive in headfirst—volunteering, organizing, and making sure the rodeo is an unforgettable event. I know a lot of you have endured countless hours of preparation, hauling things around, and even the occasional encounter with mud that has a mind of its own. Let’s just say, it’s a true test of endurance and dedication…with the added bonus of smelling like the inside of a boot by the end of it.

But here’s the thing: the rodeo isn’t just about bucking broncos and greased up rodeo dogs (although let’s be real, that’s a big part of it). It’s about coming together as a community, supporting local causes, and showing everyone what the Lufkin Host Lions Club is made of. Each year, the rodeo brings out the best in our club and lets us show off our lion-sized hearts to the whole town.
As we look to the future, I’m beyond excited for what we’ll accomplish together. Selling more tickets, peddling vouchers, more laughter, and maybe even a few new rodeo-inspired adventures. Just remember, if anyone asks, I’m only pretending to be in charge. The real magic comes from each of you—your hard work, your big hearts, and your willingness to show up (even when you know I’ll probably make another speech).
Thank you for everything. And get ready, because the next rodeo season is
right around the corner, and I have a feeling it’s going to be one for the record books.
Yours in service,
Will Alvis
